You may have heard people blame Mercury Retrograde for when things go wrong, but what exactly is it?
Mercury Retrograde occurs roughly around 3 to 4 times a year, lasting about 3 weeks each time. This is due to Mercury only taking 88 days to orbit the Sun, whilst Earth takes 365 days. When Earth overtakes Mercury in it's orbit, it creates the illusion that Mercury is moving backwards. This is Mercury Retrograde.
In Astrology, Mercury rules communication and technology meaning miscommunication, misunderstandings and technology black outs are common during Mercury Retrograde.
The next dates for Mercury Retrograde are:
25th November 2024- 15th December 2024.
15th March 2025- 7th April 2025.
18th July 2025- 11th August 2025.
9th November 2025- 29th November 2025.
How can you limit the retrograde effects?
Do not rush into important decisions or sign contracts.
Wait to launch new projects.
Postpone any big purchases.
Let arguments go.
Limit public transport if you can.
Mercury Retrograde can be beneficial by forcing you to slow down, practice self care, meditate and catch up on cleaning. Remember to pause before you speak, take a few deep breaths and collect your thoughts. Miscommunication is very common during this time so be mindful in your conversations so you can be clear, concise and direct.
There is a small shadow period once a retrograde ends which can last up to 14 days. The effects may still be lingering so be kind to yourself, do not rush and be prepared for any electronic kinks to straighten out. If you include Tarot in your practice, daily card pulls can help you navigate obstacles as well as grounding techniques such as standing barefoot in grass for a few minutes or meditating with crystals like Kambaba Jasper, Black Tourmaline or Hematite. Rest assured you will survive and come out of Mercury Retrograde raring to go!
